High and Dry

James had some autistic traits alongside a very literal approach to any questions.  These traits led to him living in a residential home for young people with additional needs.  During a quality assurance inspection the rather pious and solemn inspector was keen to involve the residents.  Genuine participation was the key to a good service, she kept reminding everyone.

Spotting a noticeboard with photographs of each member of staff, she called James over to her.

‘Now James,’ she said, in her high, patronizing voice, ‘are you able to tell me who all these people are?’

‘Yes,’ James said, before wandering off down the corridor to leave the inspector deliciously alone and stranded at the noticeboard.
